THE COUNTY BOROUGH OF STRZYŻÓW

The County Borough of Strzyżów is situated in the south-east of Poland in the Province of Podkarpacie.
The county covers 530 km2 and is populated by 63000 people. The county consists of five parishis: Czudec, Frysztak, Niebylec, Strzyżów and Wiśniowa. The capital of the county is Strzyżów, a town populated by 8000 people. There is a railway going through the county which connects the capital of the Province of Podkarpacie with another county city called Jasło. The bus service is also widely used. Moreover, there is a small airport in Jasionka, 40 kilometers from Rzeszów.

HISTORY

The legendary times of the villages and towns of the region date back to the 9th century, the days of the tribe union called Wiślanie. On the turn of the 10th century the tribe entered into The Polish State of Piast Dynasty. A significant economic and cultural development took place between the 15th and the 18th centuries. In that period the lands which originally had belonged to church authorities were successively owned by Polish knightage, middle class and gantry. In the 19th and 20th centuries a lot of factories, houses, banks, places of cultural interest and sport and leisure centers were built. A big number of monumental objects has been preserved up to now. The most important and exceptionally beautiful are: the palace and park complex in Wiśniowa, the 15th century church complex in Strzyżów, the 18th century manorial complex in Modrzewiowa Street in Strzyżów, Jewish synagogues in Czudec, Niebylec and Strzyżów. There is also a palace complex in Żyznów, wooden churches in Lutcza and Gogołów and Greek Catholic Churches in Brzeżanka and Oparówka. The places of great historical interest are two complexes of fortifications from the period of The Second World War, one in Stępina and the other in Strzyżów. |
ECONOMY
| The economy of the region is flourishing. The growth of soft fruit and vegetables and the breeding of pigs, poultry and cattle are highly developed in the county. The biggest factories in the county among others are: Strzyżów Furniture Factory, Engine Factory and the cooperative unit Auto-Service, which exports its products to various foreign countries. Moreover, there is Roksana, a factory which produces sweets, Instal Metal Planta in Czudec, a sports equipment factory called Polsport and a meat preserving unit which belongs to Mr Marek Leśniak. Private companies are becoming more and more enterprising and noticeable on the market, too. They mainly belong to food preserving industry ( meat and fruit) woodwork, metal industry and handiwork. |  |
CULTURE
| The movement of amateur artists is quite active in the region. There are a lot of artistic groups and music groups which act at the local culture centers. The most famous and significant ones are the folk band Jany from Niebylec, The Chamber Choral Society from Strzyżów, the vocal group Fiat Singers from Strzyżów, the cabaret Miećka from Frysztak and Fine Arts Club from Strzyżów. There is also a Galician group of street musicians from Czudec, two singing and dancing groups Pogórze and Wisznia, a vocal group called Malina from Połomia, a few woodwind orchestras of firemen and choir teams. |  |
TOURISM AND LEISURE

The region is one of the most beautiful spots in the respect of the unique scenery. The valley of Vislok and its basins are linked by the low, sparsely wooded hills of Dynowsko-Strzyżowskie Plateau, exceptionally picturesque in any season of the year. In the region there are Czarnorzecko-Strzyżowski Landscape Park and Sędziszowsko-Strzyżowska and Hyżyńsko-Gwoźnicka areas of the landscape under protection. The uncommon qualities of nature are also exploited by the societies of the local huntsmen who actively cooperate with huntsmen from Poland and other countries. They often meet at hunting parties which are organized in the region. |
